A COVID-19 Update – July 2020

To Our Patients:

Three months in and no end in sight.

While plans are moving for re-opening of our communities and small businesses, there are still many questions about what the future holds. Some of these questions relate to how EWC is continuing to adapt and modify our procedures in response to updates on the current health situation, and I am here to answer those questions about our operations.

Chiropractic care is, and always will be, an essential service. That is why my office has remained open through this entire health scare. Many of our sanitation procedures are still the same as before the pandemic, but we have also added some new ones:

  • Treatment room doors will remain open to allow you less contact with surfaces. If you would prefer a closed room treatment, please let Margaret or myself know. Additionally, when weather permits we are offering adjustments outside — again, to allow for less time and contact in-clinic.
  • Treatment tables are sanitized using CAVICIDE, a medical-grade disinfectant, with you in the room, and face cradle paper is unrolled just before you lie on the table.
  • I am cleansing my hands using DōTERRA On Guard sanitization spray before each of your treatments, after I have wiped down the table, and I encourage you all to wash your hands before and after your appointments.
  • Appointments have been spaced out to maintain the recommended 6ft of distancing.
  • Telemedicine appointments are available for those who are under active care for an injury, to receive instruction on ergonomics, exercises, or other lifestyle modifications. (Note: these may not be covered by your insurance plan in some cases)

Mask use is now mandated in Multnomah county. We will not, however, turn any patient away who does not or cannot wear a mask.

I can happily tell you that no patients have reported any illness related to COVID-19 at this time. My daughter was born in the midst of this pandemic — I would not be here with you if I were worried for her or my family’s safety. A notice concerning COVID-19

To Our Patients:

In light of what the World Health Organization is calling a pandemic, COVID-19, I wanted to take a moment to assure our community that all possible measures are being taken at our clinic to protect your health.

As with any healthcare environment, our staff takes great care in disinfecting treatment and massage rooms between patients, washing hands frequently, staying home when they feel ill, and of course — eating well, taking their supplements, and receiving regular adjustments to maintain an optimally functional immune system.

As a healthcare provider, I believe in information and evidence based science vs fear mongering. The CDC maintains: “For the majority of people, the immediate risk of being exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 is thought to be low. There is not widespread circulation in most communities in the United States.”  I also recognize that anxiety around evolving health issues is a concern that warrants our attention and respect. So, out of an abundance of caution: if you are uncomfortable keeping your appointments for fear of contracting Coronavirus please do what you think is best for your family. We kindly ask for as much notice as possible.

I would urge you to stay informed from reliable and credible sources; at the moment, the WHO is recommending people avoid areas of high population and mass crowds. Our clinic would not qualify as that. Staying adjusted will help keep your immune system working at its peak to fight off infections and keep you healthy.

I am posting this helpful infographic to demonstrate the differences in symptoms between a common cold, the flu, and symptoms of COVID-19. If you think you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please contact your primary care physician. Do not travel or expose yourself to the general public. Please conduct a virtual or phone check-up and let the physician decide if you need to come in to a hospital for testing.

At this time, we have no plans to limit hours, or close for any period of time, further than our reduced hours once Baby J arrives. We will keep you all updated if this changes.
