Before you arrive at the office, we hope you’ll take a few moments to complete a basic health questionnaire, so Dr. Juratovac knows more about what brought you to our office, and a little about your past health history.
When you arrive for your first visit, Dr. Juratovac will discuss your history and concerns, as well as your treatment here at our office.
Once all questions have been answered, Dr. Juratovac will perform a complete neurological and body evaluation: testing reflexes, mobility and flexibility, and strength, to make sure that chiropractic is the right option for you.
The nervous system holds the key to the body’s incredible potential to heal itself.
– Sir Jay Holder
Sometimes, we need to see beneath the surface to really understand what is causing your symptoms. In these cases, Dr. Juratovac might refer you for spinal x-rays from an imaging center of your choice.
After your evaluation has been completed, Dr. Juratovac will report his findings to you, answering three very important questions:
Can you help me?
What does that help look like?
How much will that help cost?
Of course, if you have other questions, those will be answered as well. Ultimately, our goal is to help you reach your goals, whether that be solely with us here at EWC, or if co-management with other health professionals is warranted.
Treatment will usually be provided on your first visit. This may include a spinal adjustment and/or some form of soft tissue therapy or exercise. You will also receive instructions on how to maintain the benefits you experience after your adjustment, including home treatments.
Phases of Care
Your body is a finely tuned machine, and all parts must work together and at the exact right time for the body to function as designed. The stressors of modern life, however, have other things in mind for your body. Depending on how much damage these stressors have caused, chiropractic care can vary greatly between each patient. In general, there are three phases of chiropractic care:
Pain is often what brings people to see a chiropractor for the first time. If this is you, our first goal is to help you feel better! This phase of care is all about your symptoms: pain, discomfort, lack of mobility, or whatever else made you seek our clinic. Depending on your problem’s severity, this could take 4-6 weeks, with each successive visit building upon the advancements of the last.
Now that the symptoms are diminished, you can begin work on the underlying problem that caused the challenge in the first place. This phase of care is where you begin to add strength and stability to your body, thereby creating new patterns of movement, of thought, and even new pathways within the brain. Restorative care is less intensive than relief care, but it begins to rely more on what you do outside of the office, rather than on the adjustment alone.
Your body has healed, your aches and pains are gone, your brain has created new patterns and habits. Now what? That all depends on your goals that we set at the beginning of care. Those stressors that brought you into the office in the first place are still around, though, so it’s important to maintain a regular adjustment to ensure symptoms don’t come back with a vengeance.
